Carbis Bay Hotel September 2007 Newsletter

Welcome to the September edition of our Carbis Bay Hotel Newsletter.

Staying with us in September?
Enjoy spectacular Cornwall without the crowds; peaceful walks along our renowned sandy beaches - and with long range weather forecasts predicting settled weather for most of September, with mainly dry conditions and sunny spells throughout, now is the time to enjoy our Cornish countryside at its best.

Carbis Bay Hotel Special Offers

Starting this September is Heathfest, a Heath Project festival featuring over 40 events celebrating Heathland sites across Cornwall; and a fantastic way to explore our wonderful landscape. For the photographers among you, there is the Cornwall Wildlife Trusts photography competition running throughout September (Entries can be digital, 7 x 5 print or transparency). More details can be found at the Heath Project website.

The St Ives September Festival runs for two weeks from Saturday 8th September until Saturday 22nd September with a varied mix of talks, films, poetry, jazz, classical, rock and folk music to enjoy, and covering all aspects of art and music. All just a short, breathtaking train journey from the Carbis Bay Hotel.

Performing this month at the cliff top Minack Theatre are Twelfth Night, H.M.S. Pinafore, an additional two shows of Robin Hood - a very successful show that appeared earlier in our season, and the Proms At The Minack.

There are lots of attractions at the Eden Project throughout September, including your last chance to see three exhibitions that finish at the end of September; Towards the Edge - Showcasing inspiring stories of individuals, communities and organisations who are working towards a positive future, kNow trash - Creatively re-using otherwise discarded materials and Special Places an exhibition and campaign to show how special the great outdoors can be.

Looking for a different day out in Cornwall this September? There’s the National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek where you can experience animal welfare in action at Europe’s busiest seal rescue centre. In addition to the Grey and Common Seals, you can see Fur Seals and Californian and Patagonian Sea Lions - interactive talks and feeding presentations make the National Seal Sanctuary a day out to remember for all the family.

A favourite with families is the all-weather attraction DairyLand Farm World. From adorable pat-a-pet to lovable pony rides, cows and goats to rabbits and ferrets - there’s lots of farm animals for the whole family to enjoy as well, at one very best farm attractions in the country.

Another fantastic attraction for families is the Lappa Valley Steam Railway running on one of the oldest railway trackbeds in Cornwall. Originally opened in 1849 as a mineral line from Newquay to East Wheal Rose, it later became part of the Great Western Railway’s Newquay to Chacewater branch line - And with three different train rides to enjoy, it’s a firm favourite and a fun day out whatever your age!

You will find information on many of the top Cornish attractions in our Local Information section.
